ICO Review – Mossland

Every day dozens of new tokens are announced. We go through them all to find the cream of the crop – giving you the scoop on top ICOs before anyone else.

After looking at 26 token announcements, we’re choosing Mossland as our ICO of the day. Mossland is an AR take on Decentraland, a popular VR world and property platform.

Premise

Mossland is an AR platform which combines the location-based gaming of Pokemon Go with the property ownership of Decentraland.

Mossland’s whitepaper outlines a game where users can view real world landmarks through an AR lens. Buildings and landmarks can be owned, and “Accessories”, such as a pterodactyl or King Kong can be added. Advertising can also be added. Properties can be traded on the market.

Anyone who’s played Pokemon Go understands the appeal of seeing an everyday world enhanced by animated characters and interactive visual overlays. By adding ownership and advertising, Mossland adds an economic aspect as well.

Team

Mossland’s team has strong experience in 3D through its parent company  reality Reflection, a VC back startup that creates and researches VR/AR games.

The background and experience of the team makes it likely that Mossland should have no problems delivering the project. However the fact that the company has other projects does present a timeline risk. In fact, the Mossland roadmap is also laid out very conservatively, with the first prototype being slated for late 2018.

Token

The Moss token is used in the game to pay for properties, accessories and advertising.

The main token sale is for 45% of the total tokens, or 225 million MOC. With each MOC at 0.12USD, this will result in an approximate $25 million hard cap accounting for ICO discounts, which vary by week. Mossland’s Presale raised an additional $5 million and was sold out in just 38 minutes.

Summary

Mossland is a promising AR game with elements of Decentraland and Pokemon Go. If it succeeds in capturing the addictive magic of Pokemon Go, it may well be a huge winner.

The risks with this project include whether people will take to a game essentially based around real estate, and also the risk that competitors may arise in the months leading up to the relatively late release of the game in 2019.

Nevertheless, the overall strengths of Mossland outweigh its risks in our opinion. With its solid team, good premise, and moderate hard cap, we’re happy to choose Mossland as our ICO of the day.
